Pesto and herb sauces are some of the most widely 'prescribed' medicinal food inclusions, they taste incredible and they have well evidenced therapeutic actions, especially for hormones and blood sugar management.
Herbs are much more rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants than other leafy green vegetables. They, along with healthy fats, are also anti-inflammatory and immune supportive which means a healthier hormone environment.
Fresh herbs have been shown to improve blood sugar levels which is integral to overall hormone balance. Some like mint, coriander, basil and parsley also act on specific hormones. Unsaturated fats are important for this regulation too.
Unsaturated fats like avocado, nuts/seeds and extra virgin olive oil are what we make hormones including oestrogen and testosterone from. Inadequate fat intake means low hormone levels.
So yes, this pesto is actually the best for hormones and you can find my recipe below. Pair with additional protein like chicken, fish or tofu for a complete meal.
Blitz herbs until roughly chopped, then add everything except water & Parmesan/nutritional yeast & blend.
I like to keep this quite thick as it’ll loosen when added to pasta but you can thin with as much water as you wish.
Taste & adjust seasoning as desired too.
Can be frozen for 3 months or use within 4 days.
